Session Description

Advances in autonomous technologies have created opportunities for last-mile delivery, yet for more than 90 percent of deliveries, we still move 2 pounds of burritos with 2-ton cars. By analyzing millions of deliveries, we've developed what we see as the future of urban delivery — Serve, a friendly, thoughtfully designed sidewalk robot. Powered by NVIDIA Xavier, Serve's socially aware autonomy brings design and technology together to navigate the chaotic life of sidewalks. We'll discuss how we overcome the challenges of navigating crowded, constantly changing sidewalks by instrumenting Serve with a variety of sensor modalities that are ingested, fused, correlated, and acted upon on the edge in real time. We'll also outline our vision for a sidewalk delivery fleet of the future that could provide societal benefits and pave the way for a new form of urban infrastructure.
